I've been listening a lot this week.
To new music, to some old stuff.
And I've been trying to read more than I have been lately.
I had a lot less to say this week concerning Moten's chapter 'Balwin's Baraka". It was a difficult text to parse through and there was so much that I still don't I understand. Usually not knowing or not fully understanding would make me uneasy but I feel pleased with sitting in this place of confusion.
It was almost comforting to sit in class yesterday and be in the conversation without actually contributing a new perspective or explanation. Just letting the conversation wash over me and pass through/around me. It felt good to be in the midst of 'something' and not really understanding what that 'something' is saying but know it's doing work - important work that I can't hear yet.
I wanted to share an album I've been listening to a lot this week. It's a jazz/hip-hop record called Velvet Portraits by Terrace Martin. Some of you know might know him from his work on Kendrick Lamar's To Pimp a Butterfly. It's a really wonderful album so please check it out!
