October 5th - Tentative planning

Hi everyone,

Nasrin and I will be facilitating the class on October 5th!

We will read out loud "Interview with an Empire" by M. NourbeSe Philip (now in your dropbox), and then show some film clips by Kamal Aljafari

And if we have time we'll also read parts of Nathaniel MacKey's From a Broken Bottle... (Fred's text gave us a hint of its beautiful perfume)
...And listen to Steve Reich's Music for 18 Musicians

Amiri Baraka's text is optional, but it's short and it illuminates some of the stuff we talked about in class.

Central question: What if blackness referred to rare and obsolete definitions of  matter : respectively, “substance … of which something consists” and “substance without form”? How would this affect the question of value? What would become of the economic value of  things  if they were read as expressions of our modern grammar and its defining logic of obliteration?
